Can you believe that we are already past the first day of fall in 2013? Before you know it the holiday season will be starting and we will be ringing in 2014. Have you considered the job market in the Dallas Fort Worth area for the coming year? Some interesting trends have been happening in our area over the last few years that will be affecting our job market as we move into the coming year. Here is the current job forecast for the DFW area.

  1. Increased job growth since July 2010. According the US Bureau of Labor Statistics the two regions that make up our metropolitan area have experienced substantial growth in the non-farming industries since 2010. The Dallas area added over 77,000 new jobs while the smaller Forth Worth region added 34,000 since that time. This is a 3.8% increase over the previous year.
  2. Employment services industry leading the pack. It has been known for a long time that temporary staffing is the leading indicator of economic recovery. The Dallas Fort Worth area is proving this trend with the job growth over the last year. Employment Services added over 10,000 jobs between July 2012 and July 2013, which is an 11% gain on the previous 12 month period. Temporary staffing maybe an excellent way for both employers and candidates to meet their needs as the economy continue to strengthen.
  3. Manufacturing industry growing in Fort Worth. The next three industries to experience significant growth in the area were financial services, construction and other labor positions, and healthcare. The Fort Worth area alone had a 6% increase in manufacturing positions while Dallas suffered a loss in this sector. Compare this to the national growth in manufacturing which was only 0.1%.
  4. Dallas area among the best nationwide. The job growth in the Dallas area was only surpassed by that of the New York City and New Jersey combined region. The Detroit metropolitan area still saw the lowest growth in the nation. Professional services lead the pack in many of the top areas for growth including Dallas along with Atlanta and Chicago.
